Fan Art - Final Fantasy 7 - A Cloud At Rest

After finally playing Final Fantasy 7 (I don't want to turn this into a review, but seriously, how is this the favorite of so many people? Did half the people gushing on it even bother to play the 2d versions, like the sprites might give them aids or something? 7 didn't even have texture maps, everyone looks like they were rendered by Hanna-Barbera. Yuffie? Vincent? That oversized Beanie Baby? Are you f*cking kidding me? Even that stupid cooking clown from 9, which I'm liking more as time goes on, had more of a back story than these guys. I shouldn't have to spend hour after hour racing overgrown chickens just to find out why Vash's Emo cousin sleeps in a coffin) I... ...shit, what was I talking about. Took too long with the parenthesis. Oh wait, ok. I decided that while it wasn't my favorite it was actually a pretty decent game (and another thing, I swear, they finally put a black dude in these games and he spends the whole time all "shit, these monsters be messing up ma groove yo!") and that I might as well take on a several year project to honor the series that has entertained me for over half my life. I decided to do at least one picture for each game in the series. Now I know there are artists that pump beautiful FF fan arts out of their skull like dandruff, but I'm slow, so consider that it's the though that counts. I'll probably never play 11 and don't own a ps2, so I'm not sure about those games, but one thing at a time.

I should probably actually say something about this picture, as simple as it is. I wanted to do something with cloud, centered around his sword obviously, since it's become an icon of the game (aside from Tifa's ubiquitous... ...eh, that's another picture). At first I was going to couple him with Pyramid head from Silent Hill for a good old fashioned phalic imagery bonanza, but that seems more like a gimmick than something that actually connected to the universe of these characters. So I started thinking of alternate uses he might have for it and here we are. Simple idea, simple drawing.

(And WTF was up with that final fight? Why do you keep asking me to switch to the other party members when Sephiroth Flinstone makes me feel guilty about nabbing all those Phoenix Downs at discount prices?!)

Erm.

Seriously, great game.
